Mascara can be a dangerous beauty instrument. If you do not know what you are doing, you’re risking your time, effort, and obviously your appearance. Just as digging the foundation of a home is the first step towards complimenting the rest of the home building process, applying mascara is typically the one universal makeup application that needs to be just right – so that all else can fall into place. Thankfully, many have gone before you and have found the best, most efficient and effective ways to apply mascara. If you take these tips to heart and don’t detour from them until you’re comfortable enough to branch out on your own and experiment, you’ll become a professional of the basics in no time.

How To Apply MascaraThe first step is to apply everything else first. Mascara is meant to be the cherry on top of the milkshake. This includes eye shadow, eyeliner, foundation, lipstick, etc. This may be intimidating at first because you’ll be worried about getting mascara on your eyeliner. To avoid this, stick something behind your eyelashes to prevent any rubbing.

After several minutes of checking yourself in the mirror to make sure youve applied everything with balance, it’s finally time to put the topper on. The first thing you’ll want to do is rub the end of the mascara applicator – the actual mascara throng – on the inside of the mascara tub’s rim. This is done to make sure that no excess mascara is on the applicator that could potentially ruin everything you’ve worked on.

The third step is to stand comfortably in front of the mirror. The last thing you want is to be in the middle of applying the mascara, and a weak footing causes you to slip and poke your eye with the applicator. Use a steady hand and place the wand at the root of your eyelashes. Apply 2-3 layers wiggling the wand from root to tip so that the lashes begin to separate from each other.

Use a mascara comb to pull the lashes before the mascara dries; Neglecting to do this could cause the mascara to flake and run down your cheekbones. Even if you follow every step, you may still notice small clumps. Don’t worry, the more your practice, the less you’ll see these. For now, just remove the clumps with a small cotton ball.

When applying mascara, make sure you don’t have an excess on your mascara wand. Start by applying mascara to your upper lashes. This is done by using full strokes from their base to their tips. Wiggle the wand to get mascara onto the roots of the lashes, then stroke it forward and roll them to curl them upwards for a fantastic look. For your lower lashes take care not to smudge under the eye. You will need less mascara to coat your lower eyelashes. Apply mascara to the lower lashes by applying from side to side rather than up and down.
